POLSKI BOWLSKI
POLSKI BOWLSKI
I have always been impressed with Ahren's ability to serve the ball right down the middle of the court, often splitting the opponents with the ol' hubby and wife service ace. So it shouldn't have surprised me tonight when he lit up the bowling lanes with some down the middle strikes, giving him the top score of the night!
The players had a choice of two party venues tonight (after 24 of 32 teams had already been eliminated). There was the outdoor music concert down by the courts, or the games room/bar in the basement level of the resort we were staying in.
Ahren and I first checked out the concert, but the Polish rock band that was performing was very loud and impossible to understand, making it very difficult to enjoy. So we quickly returned to the resort and checked out the other venue. We found a much more inviting environment there, with many of the other players hanging out, and a choice of pool, foosball, bowling or poker.
We chose bowling, and played several frames with some Swiss, Dutch and Norwegian players. We got beaten pretty good by the Norwegians today on the volleyball court, eliminating us at 17th place, but boy did we ever show them up at the bowling alley! Unfortunately we didn't rack up any Olympic ranking points for our stellar performance on the lanes tonight.
Ahren, who I had always pegged for a one-sport athlete (just kidding Ahren, I'm just jealous!), impressed everyone tonight with the high score of 172 (compared to my measly 144!). People were already calling him 'Twinketoes" after his dancing display the night before, but the way he strutted down the bowling lanes this evening was simply magical.
Luckily I got some of it on tape, although the video shows one of his weaker shots of the night - a spare!
