OLD STOMPING GROUNDS
OLD STOMPING GROUNDS
We normally practice at Ashbridge's Bay in Toronto during the summer months. However, this week we were invited down to Balmy Beach Club, in the east end of the Beaches, to test out their new courts. Since Balmy Beach was the very first beach I ever played the sport, I jumped at the chance to return there and kick up some sand.
As I peppered with Ahren on the exact site that I played my first tournament as a teenager, it felt very strange indeed. It has been 20 years, and I have peppered thousands and thousands of times since then. Already feeling quite nostalgic, I then see John May (our coach) and Fred Koops (Overkill owner) stroll around the corner of the club to come help out with practice. For those who don't know, Fred Koops was my very first beach partner and of course John "the King" May (our current coach) was one my favorite players to watch back in the 80's. Ah, the good ol' days!
Thanks Balmy Beach Club, for reminding me of some good moments from the past. And now that you are refurbishing the beach courts, thanks as well for the many more great moments I expect to experience there in the future!
