ZAGREB, Croatia (CP) - Canadians Mark Heese and Ahren Cadieux settled for a fifth-place finish at a World Cup beach volleyball event after losing Saturday's quarter-final match.

Heese and Cadieux, both of Toronto, posted their best-ever result despite dropping a 21-17, 21-17 decision to Kristjan Kais and Rivo Vesik of Estonia. Kais and Vesik advanced to Sunday's final, where they will face Patrick Heuscher and Sascha Heyer of Switzerland.

Heese and Cadieux earned US$10,000 for their showing, along with 360 ranking points. The points, collected over the entire 2007 season, will help determine which teams qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
