The "Stretch-A-Dollar" Heesey Award
The "Stretch-A-Dollar" Heesey Award
And the winners are....
Rich VanHuizen - Canada
Jason Lochhead - New Zealand
Dutch National Team - Netherlands
Everyone has a special gift, but for these guys, theirs is knowing how to save money. The judges panel simply couldn't distinguish between these three resourceful Heesey Award winners, as they all have so much to teach us in the art of spending wisely (or not at all!). Rich is currently writing a book called "Going Dutch" (I'm his ghostwriter - shhhh, don't tell anyone), in which he plans on sharing some of his penny-wise ideas - for a good price of course! Jason is known as "Thistlepockets", because he has trouble digging into his own pockets to pay for things (thistles are a thorny plant, in case you didn't know). He's a great guy, but I've never seen his wallet. Lastly, the Dutch National Team saves so much money on food and hotel (e.g. last week in Brazil they paid only 45 Brazilian Reals a night for an apartment that sleeps six, compared to 200 Reals for two people at the main draw hotel next door), that they can afford to send an assortment of coaches and managers on the road (flown on discount airlines no doubt!). Congratulations to our three deserving winners - and, guys, before you ask, the Heesey has a black market value of only 17 dollars Canadian (18 U.S.!) because it's only gold plated - sorry!
